In short
Interview questions in ATS Pal are a question plan for one candidate and one job. The plan is built from the analysis: requirements the resume does not show, results that are only partial, and claims worth confirming. You give the length of the interview, and the plan fits it, with the reason for every question.
A plan for a 30 minute interview.
The candidate is the one from the screening example: Pal Approved with a score of 74, French not shown and month-end close only partial.
-
Walk me through the payroll cycle you ran most recently, from timesheets to remittance.
- Why this question
- Opens the conversation on her own ground.
- Listen for
- The order of the steps, and which ones she did herself.
-
This role needs spoken French, and your resume does not mention it. When did you last use French at work, and for what?
- Why this question
- French, spoken, is Required. The resume does not mention French.
- Listen for
- A real situation, and how freely she speaks about it.
-
Your resume says you supported month-end close. Which steps were yours, and which belonged to others?
- Why this question
- Month-end close is Required. The resume does not describe her own part.
- Listen for
- Named steps and decisions she made, not the work of the team.
-
You ran payroll for 420 employees in Dayforce. What did a normal pay run look like, and what went wrong most often?
- Why this question
- This claim carries two Mandatory requirements, so it is worth hearing in her words.
- Listen for
- Detail that only someone who did the work would know.
-
What would you want to know about this role before you decide?
- Why this question
- Leaves room for her questions.
- Listen for
- What matters to her in the role.
- Every question is tagged with where it comes from in the analysis.
- The minutes add up to the length you gave.
- Each question says why it is asked and what to listen for in the answer.
The same candidate, at three interview lengths
Minutes per kind of question. A shorter interview keeps what the resume leaves open. A longer one adds depth on her claims.

Questions people ask
Does every candidate get the same questions?
No. The plan comes from that candidate and that job. Two candidates for one role get different plans, because their resumes leave different things open.
When do I ask for the questions?
When you create the analysis. You turn interview questions on and give the length of the interview in minutes. Each candidate of that analysis then has a plan.
Can I change the questions?
Yes. The plan is a starting point. Copy it as plain text and edit it, and add the questions your team always asks.
Does ATS Pal score the answers?
No. It does not take part in the interview and does not judge what a candidate says. The questions and what to listen for are for the person who runs the interview.
What does it cost?
Nothing extra. The questions are part of the analysis and take no additional credit.
Should I review the plan before I use it?
Yes. The questions are generated from the resume and the job description. Read them before the interview, as you would read questions written by a colleague.
